Our Ministry On Roatan- 2001-2003

One major component of our ministry on Roatan was the Sandy Bay Soccer Ministry.  This allowed Joey, who coached high school girls soccer in the U.S., to work directly with mostly Spanish youth from this nearby community. The goal was to challenge each one physically, socially, and spiritually.

Each Tuesday afternoon Angie, Aly, and Jeremy attended Children's Bible Study.  Angie assisted Angela Ruark, who worked with Alternative Missions on the island.  She and her husband, Greg, do outreach to "foreigners" on Roatan . . . those who did not originate here.  Most are American families who own businesses on the island.  Click here for more pictures of the Bible study group!
Each Wednesday afternoon Aly and Angie would go to our friend Wolfgang's house.  A man who works for him is a single father of a 5 year old girl named Mency.  They read books, worked on numbers and the alphabet, and played lots of games.  We do not know why her mother is not with her, but she very much loves the attention that she unfortunately does not usually receive.  Click here for a few more pictures of Aly and Mency.
Each Wednesday afternoon Jeremy and Joey would go into Colonia Balfate to play soccer with younger boys on their small soccer field (el campito).  This was the same field that Joey was working to improve.  The boys, ages 8-13, play barefoot on often rocky ground.  Click here to see more pictures of Jeremy playing with the boys.
One of Joey's favorite things to do was hosting short and long term missionary volunteers.  Individuals, families, and youth teams who participated were challenged to grow spiritually while they themselves are showed God's love to others.  Click here to see more pictures of volunteers serving God on Roatan.
With or without mission teams, Joey liked to do little construction projects and improvements around the island.  He tried to pick projects that will benefit a large number of people both directly and indirectly.  Click here to see some of the Improvements/Construction Projects that were completed.
