Dalia is 22 years old.
She is the only one in the soccer program who is married and has children.
She lives in the one-room house pictured with her husband, 3 sons (5, 3, and
1), her sister and her baby, and a younger sister and brother. For
sleeping they had only one
double bed, a hammock, and some pads, but we recently built them a bunk bed
with a double on the bottom. They have electricity but no
running water. (That is her other son washing his hair in the stream
just below the house. This is where laundry is done as well.
Unfortunately, the stream is dry about half of the year.) Dalia
probably has the most cheerful attitude of all the girls who play soccer.
She is a good example for the younger girls. While she smiles a lot,
she does not talk very much and had a difficult time coming up with answers
to many of the questions below. She and her husband have lived on Roatan for
3 years, but their families still live on the mainland. They do not
attend any church. What are your favorite
foods? chicken,
fish, rice, pork
What is your favorite TV show? "I don't
have (a TV)."
What do you like or not like about Roatan?
"I like everything."
Why do you like to play soccer? "Because
it is good exercise, and because I have friends, and because I have fun
playing."
What chores do you do around the house? "Everything."
(laughs)
What do you like to do with your friends?
"Chat and go to town and shop."
What do you think about when you think about God?
"He is big because he made everything that exists on the earth."
What is something that has happened in your life that
made you very happy? "I have my children."
What is something that has happened in your life that
made you very sad? As much as I tried,
I could not get Dalia to come up with anything that made her sad.
If someone was going to pray for you, what would you
want them to pray about? "I want them to pray for the
health of my family and for a larger house." (laughs)
