Packing Preparations

LUGGAGE

Most airlines will allow two pieces of luggage and a carryon.  There are size and weight restrictions so check with the airline when you purchase your tickets!  We recommend that groups limit each participant to one piece of luggage (suitcase or large duffel bag) and a carryon (backpack) for personal belongings.  The other piece of luggage (or cooler/cardboard box, if allowed by the airline) can be used for team supplies (food, tools, toys, clothing, medicine, equipment, etc. to use or donate).

DOCUMENTS

1.  For your group leader

(check with him or her)

2.  In your carry-on

As you travel, keep with you your plane ticket (group leader may collect), your passport, your Emergency/Medical Information

3.  In your luggage

Pack a copy of your passport

CLOTHING

All clothing should be modest, cool, comfortable, and appropriate (slogans, pictures, etc.) for a mission environment.  If you want some clothing washed during your trip (at additional cost), be sure to mark them with a permanent marker.

1.  Work Clothes

Jeans, unlined wind pants, shorts (sometimes, and within 3" of your knee), t-shirts, hat, sunglasses, rain poncho, sweat band or bandana, durable tennis shoes or work boots, and gloves.  Avoid torn clothing, loose fitting shirts, short shorts, or sandals at work sites.
